SmslånOnline.se is one of Sweden's oldest comparison sites for SMS loans. I, Simon Nyström, registered the domain as early as 2008 and over the years the site has compared and facilitated tens of thousands of loans. At that time, the big innovation was... drum roll – daring to put a face to a comparison site for SMS loans. Transparency was the new standard and the site, which was run openly, became both successful and inspiring. Other players soon followed suit. Between 2013 and 2019, SmslånOnline.se ranked among the very top comparison services on Google. The site focused on honest information – no embellishment, rather the opposite. Unreliable players were exposed, which even prompted Google to react.

At that time, SMS loans were completely unregulated and significantly more aggressive than today. The most profitable business model was based on the borrower not repaying on time. Instead, the customer was enticed to extend the loan for a pure fee – the loan did not decrease, but the interest costs skyrocketed. The most dominant player had an effective interest rate of 218% in 2018 (if I remember correctly) and the lenders could be wildly negligent with credit checks and customer verifications.

Today, it is a completely different market. The loopholes in the system have been patched, the industry is regulated, and the loans are significantly milder than they were back then – even if the media seldom points this out. Many believe that SMS loans look as they always have, but that is not the case. It is still foolish to borrow on credit, but it is at least less foolish now. The site has always had one purpose: to offer really good information.

But when the laws changed, it became difficult to keep the site updated. Suddenly, all the information became outdated, the technology needed modernizing, partners faltered (big time!), and the CMS needed to be replaced. In the end, it became unsustainable and the site disappeared completely in 2019. Timeout.

Now I am making a fresh start in a streamlined format. Less talk - more action. The focus is on offering really good information, easily accessible via mobile, with a smooth interface and lightning-fast loading times. The data is always fetched via APIs where the lenders themselves ensure that the information is updated. AI complements where needed, but this is clearly marked. No API - no listing, simply put.

And SMS loans are the only content. Speed is the focus.
